Challenges Faced By Education System Of Pakistan

The education system of a country is most important as the operators of the political, economic, administrative and religious system work them according to the quality and completeness of their education. Yet the education system of Pakistan is facing a lot of challenges through different means.

Education is a process of gaining knowledge and building up skills. It is considered an important tool for moving in society. Development of any country depends upon the education system of the country. The biggest gap between the developed and developing countries is the lack of education.

Education is an equipment to change or reshape the society. It makes a person civilized, morally good and self reliant. It is now as necessary as oxygen to take breathe in this modern era. If an individual gets changed by education, it can change the whole society.

Pakistan being a developing country is facing a severe educational crisis. A lot of speeches and claims have a major part in our history of education but remain unrealistic. These claims are made by different governments at different times but don’t get any fruitful result. The education in Pakistan has always been a low priority for our government.

There are a lot of problems but let me throw light upon some of them.

The major problem in the education system is poor allocation of the budget. The authorities are bound to spend too less in education. The successive governments have given 2.5% for education which cannot fulfill the needs of education in present times. Having low budget ,the government cannot provide good facilities. The system of education is crippled due to the low finance.

The second biggest problem is policy implementation. Thousands of policies are made but no implementation has ever been seen. In 1992 ,a claim was made that the literacy rate will increase to 70% by 2002.The same promise was made for 2010 and 85% for 2015. But ground realities are different elsewhere. The literacy rate in 2011 was 58% ,in 2014 was 60% and in 2016 was again 58%. Now,the current literacy rate of Pakistan is 60%. The promise is not yet completed.

The third problem in the education sector is political influence of external and internal forces. The external forces have a great effect on our education system . In our bureaucracy (internal forces) favoritism and nepotism are common practices. In these ways the forces are destroying us.

The fourth problem is the lack of uniformity in the education system. There is a great difference among the students of public sector schools and private sector schools. The Madrasa system is also suffering from same apartheid. This causes a big divide and damages the unity of the nation. We notice the two sectors of education in the country, from the primary school to the university level—– public and private. A shift in favor of privately controlled and autonomous educational institution is visible. In this way, a great difference is seen between public and private sectors.

The fifth problem is the education apartheid. Our education system has been designed in a way that instead of creating in its citizens a sense of social, political science and economic consciousness, it lets them be misled by morally dwindled characters of our politics and carried away by their outwardly vibrant but inwardly crooked and sweeping slogans.

Some other problems such as poor education system, lack of resources, direction less education, corruption, lack of professional teachers and outdated curriculum are associated with the education system of Pakistan. All these problems are making the education system of Pakistan weak and outdated day by day. The education system of Pakistan is unable to perform effective role in nation building. The students are theoretically good but do not have practical skills.

To sum up, we can say that education builds a society by developing the economy of the country. So the stress should lie upon the education system. There is a dire need to introduce reforms in the education system.
